The Challenge
The retailer with a strong in-store traditional business model wanted to expand its eCommerce business. While transitioning to modern business processes, the lack of near real-time visibility to inbound orders and shipments for every channel was a real hindrance for our client’s US west coast warehouse supporting 1,100 employees. Delayed updates led to inaccurate availability and pricing information on the ecommerce and back-office systems. In turn, this had a cascading impact with frequent cancellations, lost sales, and unhappy customers.
Our client assessed various options, including the evaluation of pricey market-leading products or building an in-house solution from scratch. However, its search process was futile and offered no assurance of success in a time-bound scenario—implying that its strategic technology roadmap was at risk.
The Solution

Our feature rich Real-Time Data Streamer (RTDS) automation helped the client build real-time data pipelines by effortlessly connecting source systems to enterprise analytic systems. The solution helped them move from a periodic batch process to an ‘all day data streaming’ model which immediately benefited warehouse operations. It broke down the information silos that had throttled warehouse management operations, introducing technical benefits such as enterprise-grade performance, reliability, smart alerting and security, and cloud or on-premise deployment readiness.
In addition, we also helped the retailer to move from a role and time-based arrangement to a managed services operating model for efficient skill management and utilization.
The Outcome
- The entire rollout was less than a quarter of the estimated cost of the off-the-shelf product.
- With real-time insights, the updated process could now manage shipments without dependencies which were usually causing a daily delay of more than 90 minutes.
- Tangible productivity improvement resulted in gains of USD $360,000 per year (measured by dispensing with backlogs for its 1,100-employee warehouse)
- Uncovered an opportunity in our customer’s European business, delivering an even higher degree of agility and tripling overall cost savings by an additional $2.4 million.
